GENTRY -- The Gentry Public Library Summer Reading Program, Build a Better World, hosted Taylor Pannell, weekend weather anchor and reporter for 40/29 news, to talk with our group of around 45 children about severe weather, particularly tornadoes, on June 10.

Pannell explained how tornadoes form and how they sometimes can cause destruction. Most importantly, he told the children the best ways to be safe during a tornado event. He suggested they put on a bicycle helmet and move into an interior room, if possible.

The children were attentive and, at the end of the presentation, asked good questions about safety during a tornado.

For the next Summer Reading Program session on July 17, Robin Gregory, from the Illinois River Watershed Partnership, was invited to speak to the group about water conservation and how to keep our water clean and safe to drink.
