— As the sun rose over the hills of Decatur on Saturday June 3, more than 100 area residents stood outside the new Dollar General Plus-Plus on Main Street waiting for the store's grand opening at 7 a.m. The line, which formed sometime after 6 a.m, stretched from the edge of the building to the stop sign on Maple Avenue and continued to grow.

By 6:55 a.m., members of the Decatur Chamber of Commerce and the city council, along with city employees, were on hand and joined the Dollar General management team and employees gathered near the front doors to begin the formal ribbon-cutting ceremony.

Matt Cooper, Dollar General's district manager, opened the ceremony by thanking the people of Decatur for their support over the past several years at the old location on S. Main Street. Mayor Bob Tharp reciprocated in kind by thanking Dollar General for its support of the community.

"I am very pleased with what Dollar General has accomplished at this new location and equally impressed with the citizens of Decatur and surrounding towns as they have overwhelmingly accepted the new store," Tharp said.

At the conclusion of the welcoming ceremony, Cooper, along with store manager Scott Frazier, gathered with chamber president Shanna Tucker, chamber vice-president Ladale Clayton and Mayor Tharp behind the ceremonial ribbon.

With one cut, the Dollar General Plus-Plus was opened and, in no time, shoppers waiting in the parking lot filled the store.

The Decatur Dollar General store in Decatur, which features a full grocery line, is the only one of its kind in northwest Arkansas and only the third in the state.

Dollar General Plus-Plus is open from 7 a.m. to 10 p.m. seven days a week. For more information, call 479-752-3784.
