GENTRY -- On June 5, the Gentry Public Library held its first of seven BUILD A BETTER WORLD Summer Reading Program events. These events are scheduled for each Monday from 2 to 4 p.m., with no program on July 3 and the last being on July 24.

This first event, with more than 50 attendees, was highlighted with a presentation by T.J. and Tonya Cook and David Cheek, area beekeepers. They told the group about the types of bees -- the queen bee, worker bees, drone bees -- and how they make their hives and honey. Tonya was wearing a beekeeper's outfit, and she showed us how it enclosed her completely so that no bee could sting her while she was working close to the hives. They also brought a child-sized beekeeper's outfit and gloves, which was a very popular item because several children wished to try it on.

The Gentry Public Library wants to thank T.J. and Tonya Cook and David Cheek for coming to Gentry Public Library's first Summer Reading Program of 2017. Monday's program included presentations from Gentry Police Department and Fire Department, as well as crafts and a tour of a real fire truck.

We look forward to seeing you at our next program.
