Tired Iron Show set April 14-16

The Spring Crank-up is set for April 14-16 at the Tired Iron of the Ozarks showgrounds, 13344 Taylor Orchard Road in Gentry. The show will be open from 8 a.m. until 5 p.m. on Friday and Saturday and from 8 a.m. until 3 p.m. on Sunday. The featured tractors this spring will be Allis-Chalmers. The featured engine will be the Stover Upright. Other regular features of the show include a working blacksmith shop and sawmills, noon parade of power, tractor games, log cabin, outhouse photo booth, rope making, antique tractor and engine displays, old farm implements and demonstrations, antique home furnishings with demonstrations, concession stand serving breakfast and lunch, music, a flea market, and 9 a.m. Sunday church services. RV parking is available, and the show and visitor parking are free.

Farmers' Market Coupons available

Farmers' Market Coupons will be given out on Wednesday, April 5, from 9 a.m. until noon, at the Gentry Senior Activity and Wellness Center. Proof of income and identification are required to receive the coupons.

Spring Fling Boredom Buster at Gentry Public Library

Gentry Public Library Spring Fling Boredom Buster will be held on Thursday, March 23, with activities, crafts, treats, a movie and a special speaker. Events are planned for different age groups, and various local youth groups will assist in the activities. If you have a group that would like to be involved, please call the library at 479-736-2054. Library Lorax Events

The Gravette Public Library will host two events in March featuring "The Lorax" by Dr. Seuss. Preschool storytime, at 11 a.m. Wednesday, March 15, will include a craft and music in addition to reading of the book. Steve Chrychel, of Hobbs State Park, will give a special presentation of "The Lorax" at 3:30 p.m. on Fri., March 31, for kindergarten through sixth grade students. The program will focus on forest conservation. The library is located at 119 Main Street, S.E., in Gravette.

Gravette Pee Wee Cheerleaders holding annual sign-ups

Gravette Pee Wee Cheerleaders will be holding their annual sign-ups for the 2017 season. Sign-ups will start on March 18 at the Miss Shamrock Pageant at the Gravette Upper Elementary cafeteria. There will also be three additional sign-up days: March 11 from 3 to 4 p.m., April 8 from 2 to 5 p.m., and May 27 from 12 to 3 p.m., all at the Gravette Upper Elementary playground picnic tables. Miss Shamrock Pageant scheduled

The Gravette Pee Wee Cheerleaders are sponsoring the Miss Shamrock Pageant on March 18 at the Gravette Upper Elementary cafeteria. The pageant is open to girls, ages 5-14. Applicants need not be in Gravette Schools to participate. Cost is $25. There will be an in-person sign-up day on March 11, from 3 to 4 p.m. at the Upper Elementary playground tables. Quilting Class

A class for area quilters and crafters will be held at 12:30 p.m. Saturday, March 18, at the Church of Christ annex, 202 Irving St., S.W., in Gravette. Instruction will be given on a quilt block and a "show and tell" session will be held. Please bring finished projects or works in progress and a snack to share.

Celebrate Archeology Day

The Arkansas Archeological Survey, UAF Station, will hold a Celebrate Archeology Day event from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Saturday, March 25, at the Survey station, 2475 N. Hatch Ave., Fayetteville, off of Garland, across from the Pauline Whitaker Animal Science Center. Survey archeologists and volunteers will demonstrate atlatls and other replicas, basketry, textile weaving, flint knapping, conduct artifact ID and have other demonstrations and exhibits on Arkansas archeology. The event is free and open to the public. Pizza will be provided by Mojo's Pints and Pies.

EAST students seeking stories, artifacts related to school building

Anyone willing to help a group of fifth-grade EAST students from the Gentry Intermediate School compile stories, photographs and artifacts related to the building is asked to go to http://bit.ly/GISDocOnline and fill out the online form or call the EAST classroom during school hours at 479-736-2380, ext. 25​.

GFA Food Pantry open Mondays in Gentry

The GFA Food Pantry at the First Assembly of God in Gentry is open from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Mondays. The church partnered with the NWA Food Bank and Rural Compassion to receive food to be given away, including canned goods, fresh vegetables, bread and meats as part of the only certified food bank in Gentry. Baked Potato Supper

A baked potato supper fundraiser will be held at the Billy V. Hall Senior Activity and Wellness Center in Gravette from 5 to 7 p.m. on Friday, March 17. Meal will include a baked potato and toppings, dessert and beverage for $8. Takeouts will be available. Proceeds go to the Senior Center's Meals on Wheels program.

Quilt Raffle Fundraiser

Billy V. Hall Senior Activity and Wellness Center is sponsoring a quilt raffle fundraiser. Drawing for a quilt made and donated by Betty Howard will be held on Friday, March 17. Tickets are $1 each or six for $5. Tickets may be purchased at the Center, 1870 Limekiln Road, or by calling 479-787-5950. Ticket holders need not be present to win. All proceeds to go the Meals on Wheels program that serves Gravette, Sulphur Springs, Decatur, Hiwasse and Maysville.

School Annuals Needed

Several Gravette High School annuals are still needed to complete the collection at the Gravette Historical Museum. Annuals needed are those from the following years: 1952, 1955, 1956, 1957, 1958, 1959, 1960, 1961, 1963, 1965, 1966, 1967, 1976, 1977, 1979, 1981, 1984, 1997, 1998, 1999, 2001, 2002, 2004 and 2007. Anyone having school annuals from these years they are willing to donate may call Lavon Stark, 479-787-5618, or bring them to the museum during open hours, 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Thursday, Friday and Saturday.

Library Commission Openings

Three positions are open for members on the Gravette Public Library Commission. Commission members must live within the Gravette School District. Persons interested in the position should contact Library supervisor, Karen Benson, at 479-787-6955, or Gravette City Hall at 479-787-5757, or they may apply in person at the Library, on Main Street, or at City Hall.

Lions Club meetings held in Gravette and Gentry

Gravette Lions Club meets at noon on the first Tuesday and the third Tuesday of every month at the In-Zone Restaurant on Arkansas 59 North in Gravette. The Gentry Lions Club meets at 6:30 p.m. on the fourth Monday of the month at the McKee Community Room in Gentry Public Library. New members are welcome and invited.

Tired Iron Club meets third Tuesday of month

Gravette Kiwanis Club plans breakfast meetings

The Gravette Kiwanis Club holds breakfast meetings at 7 a.m. each Friday at the cafeteria in Ozarks Community Hospital. Guests are welcome.

Gravette Legion meets third Tuesday of month

Gravette American Legion Post 25 meets at 7 p.m. the third Tuesday of the month at the Civic Center. All veterans are encouraged to attend.

Singing services planned

Monthly singing services at Falling Springs Church are held at 7 p.m. the first Friday of each month. The church is located northwest of Gentry and west of Decatur on Falling Springs Road.

Decatur VFW meetings first Tuesday of month

VFW Post 9834 meets at 7 p.m. on the first Tuesday of each month. New members and guests are welcome.
