Maysville EHC

Maysville Extension Homemakers met at the Community Building for the April 27th meeting and lunch hosted by Melinda Crawley. The meeting was called to order by President Orpha Wardlaw. Jane Wilber welcomed everyone, and the Pledge of Allegiance was spoken. Melinda Crawley led the group in singing "Let The Sun Shine In" and then gave an inspiration entitled "Heart's Gift."

Beverly Whiteside gave the lesson on Cleaning the Chemical Free Way. A clean home is healthy and pleasant, but all those chemicals in the supplies we clean with can affect our health and our environment. They can also be expensive. Homemade cleaners can be just as effective as conventional cleaners, cost much less and are healthier. Baking soda, washing soda, Borax, vinegar and vegetable-based soaps like Castile are all good cleaning agents.

A helpful hint was given by Jane Wilber on how to kill squash bugs with Dr. Boner's Casteel soap. Laura Kinney showed a pretty sewing guide she made with a turkey lacer and beads. She also showed a lap robe and noted 35x45 was the ideal size for wheelchairs.

Gwen Singleton called the roll, and members responded with what they hate most to clean. Minutes were read and approved.

President's report was given and reminders of upcoming events: Spring Council report, Cultural Art May 18, Maysville Day June 17, County Fun Day June 29, County Fair August 8-12, and Life writing has been suspended for the summer. The spring fundraiser date was changed to May 26 due to expected heavy rain. Meeting adjourned.
