Pioneers shutout Bobcats in homecoming win

GENTRY -- The Pioneers crowned this year's homecoming celebrations with a 21-7 shutout win over the visiting Bobcats from Berryville on Friday night.

Though there were long drives, neither team managed to get one across the goal line in the opening quarter. But the Pioneers scored twice in the second quarter and once in the third for the win.

Jon Faulkenberry carried two across the goal line, and he connected to Peyton Wright for a third. Senior kicker Garrett Matthews was good on all three point-after kicks for the Pioneers.

The Pioneers had 237 rushing yards in 36 carries. They picked up another 146 yards through the air with passes received by Matthews, Myles McFerron, Wright and Logan Linton. Wright received seven passes for 89 yards. Faulkenberry had 135 rushing yards, and McFerron had 81.

Matthews led in tackles with 17. Matthew Nance had 16. Mason Clark led in solo tackles with four. He also had six assists. Matthews snatched two interceptions in the game.
