GENTRY -- Big third and sixth innings gave the Lady Pioneers plenty of runs to defeat Providence Academy in six and a half innings on Thursday at the Merrill Reynolds Memorial Complex in Gentry. Providence Academy scored a run in the first and fifth and three in the top of the seventh, but Gentry's six runs in the bottom of the sixth gave the girls the margin of their 11-5 victory.

Down by one, the Lady Pioneers scored four runs in the third when Meledy Owens reached on a shortstop error and scored on a Carissa Goosens ground out to first. Avani Edwards, Mandy Barber and Randi Jo Bolinger walked; and Edwards and Barber scored on a line-drive double into center field by Raegan Jude.

Owens tripled to right field in the fourth inning and made it home on a catcher error.

Then, in the bottom of the sixth, Lynzey Sikes, Owens and Edwards walked, loading up the bases. All three scored on a catcher's error before Harley Stanfield tripled on a fly ball into center field. Goosens then walked, and both Stanfield and Goosens were brought home by an inside-the-park home run to right field by Bolinger, to make the score 11-2 in favor of Gentry.

Providence Academy managed three runs in the top of the seventh on a walk, a sacrifice fly and three doubles, but it wasn't enough to take the win away from the Gentry girls.

Gentry had six hits and 11 runs in the game and no errors. Providence Academy scored five runs on seven hits but was charged with seven errors in the game.

Jude pitched all seven innings in the game and struck out eight Providence batters.
