DECATUR -- Decatur area residents dropping off recyclables after 2 a.m. prompted the Decatur City Council to reconsider the location of the two recycle-bin trailers during its April 9 meeting at city hall in Decatur.

Melinda McCollum, who lives near city hall, expressed her concerns regarding the noise generated by cans, bottles and the bin doors as residents in the area of city hall are trying to sleep.

"It's really hard to go to sleep at night with people dropping off their recyclables at all hours of the night," McCollum said. "Is there any way to relocate the bins to another part of the city's property?"

The council looked at several new sites throughout the city and found one that worked best.

Two days after the council meeting, a gravel pad was completed and the recycle-bin trailers were put in place behind the old blue Headstart building on the north side of city hall.
