Boy drowns near Gravette

GRAVETTE -- The body of a 7-year-old boy was found floating in a pond just outside of Gravette city limits on Friday morning, authorities said.

Sgt. Shannon Jenkins with the Benton County sheriff's office said the child, identified as Jason Thomas Heath, had been reported missing earlier in the day. A short time later, deputies found the boy in the pond in a nearby pasture, Jenkins said. The investigation is ongoing, according to Jenkins.

Deputies received the call about the missing child at 10:16 a.m. Friday. The child was found about 40 minutes after deputies arrived.

The child was sent to a hospital via helicopter, Jenkins said, but was pronounced dead.
