It's time to sign up for Decatur Barbecue events

DECATUR -- Soon it will be barbecue time -- the Decatur Barbecue, to be exact.

The 65th Annual Decatur Barbecue, sponsored by the Decatur Chamber of Commerce, is scheduled to kick off at 7 a.m. Aug. 4 with the traditional 5K, 10K and Fun Runs from Edmiston Park concession stand. The event concludes with a concert by rising country star, Mo Pitney.

Several of the old traditions will be on tap for this year's event, including the Tiny Tots contest, Fun Run and the parade. Back by popular demand is the Barbecue Classic and Antique Car show.

With interest declining in beauty pageants over the past several years, the chamber was looking to cancel the Miss Decatur Barbecue contest this year. However, a few members suggested that the pageant should be retired with dignity. This year, the Miss Decatur Barbecue will be open only to Decatur, Gentry and Gravette girls.
