Sisters to hold book signings at Gravette Public Library

GRAVETTE -- Authors Brenda DeMoss Lanz and Debbie DeMoss Compton, daughters of longtime Gravette residents, Rev. and Mrs. Myrle DeMoss, will do a book signing event Thursday, March 22, from 6 to 8 p.m., at the Gravette Public Library. The library is located at 119 Main Street S.E.

In her book, How to Heal Old Wounds and Find Your Voice: Preacher's Kids Are Not Minions, Lanz details the journey of finding love, forgiveness and her own voice. She relives growing up one of four preacher's kids who, let's just say, are less than perfect.

Lanz left her job in corporate America in 2014 to pursue God's purpose for her life. In addition to being a motivational speaker and teacher, she chairs the Compassion International Triad Walk to raise funds for disaster relief worldwide and works as a short-term missionary for Joni and Friends which provides a summer camp experience for children with disabilities. She is currently working on her next book, Briefcase to Calling.

Lanz is the mother of three married daughters and has three grandchildren. She lives in Jamestown, N.C., with her puppy, Elijah.

Taking care of a loved one with Alzheimer's, dementia or Parkinson's is difficult on the best days. Learn what to expect next and how to deal with it. You'll be encouraged, uplifted and better prepared after reading Debbie DeMoss Compton's new book titled, Caregiving: How To Hold On While Letting Go.

Compton's book contains information, inspiration, ideas to try and inventions to make life safer and easier. You'll laugh at some of her silly mistakes and gain valuable insight into specific things you can do. She has been a primary caregiver for her mother-in-law with Alzheimer's's, her father with Parkinson's and currently her mother with Dementia. The diseases have many similarities but each person reacts a little differently, which is why her book gives several examples of how to deal with issues. Life is not a one-size-fits-all.

With each journey, Compton learned new things, developed new ways to make life easier and researched to obtain more information. This book is a compilation of things that work and will make a caregiver's life better. It will help anyone struggling to understand these awful diseases or who needs a new way to interact with a loved one who is slipping away. It contains real-world solutions to common problems like wandering, hallucinations, safety, hygiene, dressing, medications and more.

Compton writes monthly articles for Alzheimer's and Dementia Awareness, speaks to caregiver support groups, provides training online and in person for both Dementia and Alzheimer's and is currently writing a book called Caregiver Quick Reference Guide that will include a topical index for those needing to locate specific answers in a hurry.

She and her husband Bob live in Oklahoma City not far from their six grandchildren.

Both books may be purchased at amazon.com. Copies will be available for purchase at reduced prices at the book signing event.
