BENTONVILLE -- Two members of the Decatur Bulldog boys' and girls' track team qualified for state during the Tiger Invitational Track meet at Tiger Stadium in Bentonville March 16.
Because of spring break and another meet in Green Forest, only five teams competed in this year's event, which included powerhouses Fayetteville, Springdale Har-Ber, Rogers and two smaller schools, Bentonville Haas Hall and Decatur. The Bentonville Tigers took first place with the Decatur Bulldogs placing third.
Desi Meek and Johnny Brandon turned in outstanding performances which qualified them for the state meet in May.
Fortunately for Decatur track coach Shane Holland, there will be several more meets in the next five weeks that will give many of his athletes a chance to achieve their state qualification.
The teams will be off for spring break, but resume their practice schedule March 26. The next meet for Decatur will be in Eureka Springs March 30, beginning at 3:30 p.m.
