CENTERTON -- Rural Gravette residents Steve Mitchael and Jill Turner-Mitchael officially opened their new business, 72 West, Monday, April 30. A ribbon cutting was held at 10 a.m. at the retail store located at 11507 Highway 72 in Centerton.

Mitchael explained that the business has both new and old merchandise and offers something for everyone. The extensive inventory includes furniture, home furnishings, baby gifts, marbles, collectibles, cowhide rugs, floral arrangements, many antiques and jewelry, including a large selection of turquoise. The Mitchaels have collected the merchandise for 15 years.

"The 5,000-square-foot showroom is not a flea market," Mitchael says. "It is packed full, and new items are brought in every few days. There is a lot of it. The facility is bright and open and is merchandised very well."

Both Steve and Jill have extensive merchandise experience, having worked for Walmart for more than 20 years. This venture started as a retirement hobby and has grown to include their three children and their families. Deonne Underhill, of Pea Ridge, also assists them in the shop on weekdays.

"Everyone pitched in to help set up," Mitchael said. "One thing Jill hopes to accomplish is to teach our family what it takes to own and run a small business, skills we hope the kids can put to use throughout life."

The Mitchaels say the store inventory is always changing, so shoppers are encouraged to return often. They will buy antiques and family heirlooms, even whole housefuls of furnishings, if sellers will give them a call.

Open hours for 72 West are 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Saturday. For more information, call the business at 479-715-6595.
