Lions Golf Classic raises more than $7,000

GRAVETTE -- The annual Lions Golf Classic was held Saturday, May 5, at Scotsdale Golf Course in Bella Vista. More than $7,000 was raised to benefit various programs at Gravette High School, including drama, vocal music, instrumental music, athletics, cheerleading, academic awards and the arts. This was the 16th year for the event and fundraising results were very similar to 2017 totals.

John Edwards, one of the event organizers, reported that 84 golfers participated in the tournament. Edwards thanked all those who entered the tournament, as well as the individuals and businesses who provided prizes for the event.

Final results reported for the tournament included:

Men's Division, Flight A -- First place (59), Matt Busch, Tyler Busch, Braxton Muldoon, Daryl Muldoon; Second place (59), Jason Loyd, Clint Scrivner, Jeff Hendren, Harl Pike; Third place (62), Bob Mader, Anthony Mader, Tony Skorupski, Avery Akorupski.

Flight B -- First place (64), Jon Criger, Jeff Pulis, Don Murphy, Clarence Fletcher; Second place (65), Mark Deihl, Julie Deihl, Brook Deihl, Rachel Deihl; Third place (65), Jerry Lee Foster, Maurice King, Gene Leonard, J.D. Pickens.

Flight C -- First place (67), Jim Westcott, Bev Westcott, Willard Sadler; Second place, Fred Albitz, Don Velo, Ted Givens, David Schroeder; Third place (70), Ethan McKinzie, Haden McAfee, Jeff Melton, Wes Bradley.

Women's Division -- First place (75), Sharon Drake, Connie Salzer, Sonja Pohl, Ann Millard.

Mixed Division, Flight A -- First place (66), Jim Moeller, Gerri Moeller, Al Meyer, Donna Meyer.

Flight B -- First place (69), Dennis Kurczek, Richard Page, Robin Williams-Riley, Allison Prewitt.

Ellen Shelly won the closest to the pin contest for women with a distance of 30 feet, 7 1/2 inches. Tony Skorupski won the men's closest to the pin contest with a distance of 1 foot, 2 5/8 inches.

Ann Millard won the prize for longest drive in the women's division and Clint Scrivner won the prize for longest drive for men.
