DECATUR -- Students in Decatur had the opportunity to take an imaginary tour of some of the most exciting places in the United States while learning more about the very state in which they live.

The tour was part of the USA Night celebration at Decatur Northside Elementary held May 10. The celebration encompassed the entire facility from the hallways to the classroom, to the cafeteria where the kindergarten and first-grade classes provided a musical treat.

Each grade level picked a state for its project. The students researched information about their states and decorated their hallways with artwork that best represented each state's natural resources and economy.

Down the main hallway at Northside, a few of the local businesses such as Handy Mart, Farm Credit and Farmers Coop were on hand to support the school.

The after school and summer Sparks program also contributed a display to share with visitors some of the remarkable programs it offers to students in Decatur.
