GRAVETTE -- The Gravette Lady Lions had an easy night Nov. 20 when they faced the Cedarville Lady Pirates in their first home appearance of the 2018-19 season. When the dust had settled at the competition gym in Gravette, the Lady Lions struck gold as they overwhelmingly defeated the Lady Pirates by 34 points.

It was slow going for both Gravette and Cedarville in the early stages of the first quarter. Eventually, the Lady Lions moved ahead of the Lady Pirates, taking a four-point advantage, 14-10, into the next quarter.

Playtime was over for Gravette as the offense caught fire and amassed 20 points while the defense held Cedarville to only six points in the second quarter. As the two teams went to their respective locker rooms at halftime, the Lady Lions built a huge lead, 34-16, over the Lady Pirates.

The crowd got into the contest in the second half as the Lady Lions continued their scoring streak, scoring an impressive 26 points in the third quarter and taking a 60-24 lead into the final eight minutes of the game.

As quickly as the point tally built in the second and third quarters for Gravette, the team suddenly went cold and only scored four points to Cedarville's six. But the damage was done early in the contest and the Gravette Lady Lions went on to win, 64-30, over the Cedarville Lady Pirates.

Leading the scoring drive in their first home appearance of the season were Jessica Bookout and Shylee Morrison, each with 15, followed by Gabbi Scott with nine. Rounding out the scoring effort for the Lady Lions were Maggie McKenzie and Kylan Chilton, each with five, Mallory Smith with two and Abigail Beranek with one.
