MAYSVILLE -- The Maysville Extension Homemakers Club met at the community center for the September meeting and lunch. Hostess for the meal was Gwen Singleton.
The meeting was called to order by President Orpha Wardlaw. Vice President Jane Wilber welcomed everyone and led the pledge of allegiance. Melinda Crawley led the group in singing "Rheumatism," followed by an inspiration on church bulletin bloopers given by Oprah Wardlaw. The eye-opener given by Jane was to place glasses that have stuck together in the freezer and they will easily come apart. Gwen showed some canvas prints she had made from old family photos.
The lesson was given by Gwen on "Solutions for Saying No to Time Wasters."
Determine your priorities before agreeing to new projects and evaluate if they fit with your priorities. Some questions to ask yourself before you say are: Do you have the time? Will you feel pressured to get it done? and What will you have to give up in order to do this?
The minutes were read and roll called by the secretary. Jane gave an update on several ongoing projects concerning the community building and grounds. Rick Talbot talked to us about the possibility of cleaning the rock siding, painting the outside of the building and concerns with regard to the porch posts on the east side of the building.
We heard reports on the County Fair by Robin Reichardt. Melinda Crawley reported we received a blue ribbon and a $30 premium check for our educational booth. A report was also given on our summer outing at the Wooden Spoon Restaurant in Gentry.
Melinda reported working on the flower bed at the four-way stop by the Handi Stop and ask if we wanted to purchase mums to plant for fall.
Plans were made for the fall fundraiser bean supper and the date set for Oct. 26.
County Council Will be Nov. 30 at the Gravette Civic Center.
The meeting was adjourned with the Homemakers Prayer.
