'A Novel Occasion' gala is planned for Gentry library

GENTRY -- A gala to support the work of Gentry Public Library is scheduled for 6:30 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 17, in the Gentry Middle School cafeteria.

While the library building is owned and maintained by the city of Gentry and the library staff is paid by the city, the books, ebooks, computers and programs are funded through The Gentry Public Library Association, a local 501(3)c organization which supports the library and its programs, and profits from the gala will be used to provide materials and programs at the library.

According to information provided by the Library Association, The Gentry Public Library Association exists to raise funds for events such as the summer reading program, spring break and Halloween movie nights, a Christmas luncheon, appreciation gifts for volunteers and numerous other events for both adults and children. According to the Association, many new programs are being planned for the near future.

A letter mailed out to city residents and business owners states: "On November 17th, we will be having a gala event, 'A Novel Occasion.' We are asking for your support in this endeavor. Even if you don't personally use the library, please remember your clients, patients, customers, friends and the children of our community who benefit from having a library in their hometown."

The gala theme is "A Novel Occasion," and tickets are available for $50 each at the Gentry Public Library, Gentry City Hall and the Gentry Chamber of Commerce. Tickets may also be ordered, and donations sent, by mail to Gentry Public Library Association, 105 East Main Street, Gentry, AR 72734 or by calling 479-479-841-6172.
