GRAVETTE -- A ribbon cutting was held at the newly renovated Gravette Civic Center at 5 p.m. Thursday evening, Oct. 11, just preceding the evening's city council committee of the whole meeting. Mayor Kurt Maddox, city officials, city council members and members of the Greater Gravette Chamber of Commerce were all present. Several citizens from both Gravette and Hiwasse attended and enjoyed tours of the facility after the ribbon cutting.

Mayor Kurt Maddox welcomed all present and thanked them for attending. He expressed gratitude to all who helped during the several months of renovation and invited all to make use of the beautiful, completely remodeled building. He noted that the committee meeting that evening would be held in the council meeting room on the northeast corner of the building and that, beginning in November, all committee of the whole and council meetings will be held there.

The building is also available for rental by individuals, families and organizations for events such as receptions, family reunions, birthday and anniversary parties and club meetings. A 50th-anniversary party was held there on Saturday evening. Call city hall, 479-787-5757, for rental information.

Cookies and iced tea were served and special commemorative coins were distributed to those who attended. One coin, commemorating the city's 125th anniversary, read "Gravette, 125 Years" with a scene of Gravette Main Street. An image of the state of Arkansas was featured on the back side. The second coin read "City of Gravette, The Heart of Hometown America" and pictured a scene of the recent Main Street renovation project, with "City of Gravette, Arkansas, Established 1893" and an image of the U.S. Air Force plane in Kindley Park on the reverse.
