HIWASSE -- The annual fall festival is scheduled in the Hiwasse Community Saturday, Sept. 29. Activities will be held from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Hiwasse Park, 13690 Fire House Lane, and Hiwasse residents invite everyone in the area to plan on attending.

Hamburger or hot dog meals, including chips, drink and a dessert, will be offered for $5 each. Area vendors will have booths set up selling a variety of locally-grown fresh produce and handmade craft items. Games, a bouncy house and the popular pumpkin painting booth will all be available for the kids' enjoyment.

Live musical entertainment will be provided by the Rockin' Roads Band, a Hiwasse band that plays classic rock-and-roll tunes from the '50s through the '90s. Reviewers of the band members praise them for their performance of popular cover tunes and say they play great dancing music.

A chili cook-off, always a highlight of the festival, is planned again this year and will begin at 1 p.m. Chili samples may be purchased for $1 each. Anyone interested in entering the chili cook-off should call Larry Weihe, 479-531-0472. Anyone desiring to reserve vendor space should call Patti Bertschy at 479-721-2498.

Bertschy, the festival organizer, urges everyone to bring lawn chairs and come out and enjoy the festival events. "Plan on a great afternoon visiting with friends, neighbors and classmates," she said. "We have a newly remodeled community room and a great new playground, so let's enjoy it!"

A Gravette High School all-school reunion is planned for Friday, Sept. 28, with the introduction of GHS alumni at the evening's football game. Bertschy invites all present GHS students and GHS graduates in town for the reunion to come out and join in the festival activities.
