GENTRY -- It looked like the Pioneers would win their first football game of the season in their first home game of the season, being up 17-0 at the half, but that was not to be. The Greenland Pirates came back to steal the game by holding the Pioneers scoreless in the second half and putting 28 points on the board.

Greenland overcame a 17-0 halftime deficit to earn a nonconference victory over Gentry, 28-17.

Gentry quarterback Brandon Atwood completed 12 of 21 passes for 157 yards and threw touchdown passes to Zach Jarnagan and Dylan Kilgore. Jarnagan, a sophomore, had five catches for 85 yards and a score and 72 yards rushing on just two carries. Kilgore caught four passes for 34 yards.

Hayden Stout had 44 carries for 235 yards and three touchdowns for Greenland (2-1), which cut the deficit to 17-14 after three quarters and scored twice in the fourth quarter. Levi Vaughn added 19 carries for 128 yards and a touchdown and also completed 10 of 18 passes for 127 yards.

Gentry is now 0-3 for the season and plays its first conference game of the season on Friday when the Pioneers host the Blackhawks from Pea Ridge (1-2) in Pioneer Stadium. Game time is 7 p.m.

Pea Ridge shut out Farmington, 42-0, on Friday.
