OPINION: The ways we are thankful are many and varied

I lost my good hat last Sunday after church. I stepped out the front door and the wind took it to Nebraska. We chased the thing for a while through the pasture until it crossed another wire fence and then it just kept going.

I did not have it on my head when all this happened, I was still carrying it out the door. I want another one for Christmas, and one that is pure beaver might be heavy enough to stay in this state!

The cattle have grass again after the little showers we had last week and it was a needed thing. We are so dry anymore. I believe we have become more and more arid due to the dozing of so many trees. Yes, pastures are wonderful, but I like for mine to grow grass! You can see miles and miles of dozed ground anywhere you go around here and yet we complain about the dryness and the wind! Go figure!

We have a humped-up cow and she was fine a couple of days ago so we had to get her up and look her over. I mean she was acting like she had a bellyache or something of that nature. The offspring went to move the herd in on their four-wheelers and I went to the gates to keep things moving in the right direction. Got them in without any runaways, and only had to spill out a couple of sacks of cubes.

The subject of the gathering moved along like she was fine but still in the humped up posture. We got her into the crowding pen and both offspring were behind her, sorta pushing on her when she exploded! She is doing right well now, walking tall, and if a cow smiles, she is! She covered both of the cowboys and then some! The bellyache has suddenly been cured!

The country is so full of covid-19 that my close relative has put a limit on the Thanksgiving dinner. We hope to feed offspring and their offspring but no invited company. That includes boyfriends, farriers, grain salesmen and preachers. The death numbers are staggering and I am so sorry for folks that are mourning losses due to this nasty evil thing that has invaded our world.

I welcome the forecasted warm weather and maybe some moisture and I also welcome the time to be officially thankful. I stepped out the door this morning and saw blue sky, heard a mockingbird singing and immediately knew another blessing had been given me!

It is my opinion, and everyone has one, the ways we are thankful are many and varied; we share what we have and that is one way. We are kind to fellow mankind and that is being thankful for friends, and we are loving to our families. Thankfulness for what we don't have is a very important thing too. I took a friend to the oncology clinic and, believe me, you can certainly be thankful for what you do not have after visiting there. Be thankful for a merciful Lord and pray for a good healthy dinner on Thursday!

I hid my bow and arrows along with the ammo this week! We never know!
