Lady Lions outshoot Lady Pioneers for win

GENTRY -- Though it was a hard-fought contest for both teams, the Lady Lions pulled ahead of the Lady Pioneers for a 49-38 win at Gentry High School on Dec. 22.

Both teams scored nine points in the opening quarter, with Gentry's Reese Hester dropping two 3-pointers and Alexa Parker and Brynn Romine each hitting a long shot for Gravette.

Parker hit two more threes in the second quarter and sunk a pair of free throws, coupled with a pair of twos and a free-throw by Dalacie Wishon and another goal by Brynn Romine to outscore the Lady Pioneers, 15-7, and take an eight-point lead into the locker room at the half-time break.

The third quarter was close, with Shelby Still hitting a 2-pointer and four free throws and Brynn Cordeiro and Presley Ward adding a goal each for Gentry. Gravette scored 11 points on two goals by Wishon and two goals and a trey for Romine.

The Lady Pioneers tried their best to come back in the final quarter, picking up 12 more points on the shooting of Still, Ward, Hester, and Emma Tevebaugh, but the Lady Lions widened the gap by gaining another 14 points, with Brooke Handle hitting two treys, Wishon adding three goals and a free throw, and Keeley Elsea hitting a free throw.

Wishon led in scoring for Gravette, with 19 points in the game. Romine had 12 and Parker 11. On the Gentry side, Still had 11, Hester 8, and Cordeiro 7.
