GENTRY -- After falling to Shiloh Christian, 63-33, in an away game on Jan. 16, the Gentry Pioneers picked up a 66-6 win over the Berryville Bobcats on homecoming night at Gentry High School.
The Pioneers started off slow and were down 16-7 after the first quarter of play, but the Gentry team used a 24-9 run in the second quarter to take the lead and then hold off Berryville to earn a 4A-1 Conference victory, 66-60. The outburst helped the Pioneers (8-14, 2-6) take a 31-24 halftime lead, but the visiting Bobcats (5-17, 0-8) pulled within 50-47 to close out the third quarter.
Nehemiah Harrington had 17 points for Gentry, Garrett Jech 15, and Jacob Brown 12. Peyton Smith led Berryville with 26 points, while Dale Nag-talon added 10.
The Pioneers finished the week in the seventh-place spot in the conference, just ahead of Berryville.
GIRLS
GENTRY 64-37, BERRYVILLE 37
After changing from their homecoming ceremony attire into their basketball uniforms, the Lady Pioneers dominated Friday's game against the Berryville Bobcats, taking the lead in the first quarter and building on that lead for the remainder of the game to finish the contest ahead, 64-37.
At Shiloh Christian on Jan. 16, the Lady Pioneers defeated the Lady Saints by a score of 58-31.
Last week's wins put the Gentry girls at 6-2 in conference play and 18-3 overall for the season. They were in third place in the 4A-1 Conference behind Gravette and Farmington.
